Hector and his 2 friends were being raised for prime beef at a farm in Hampshire when they were spotted by a group of friends who visited them regularly. On learning about what fate was in store for the three, they set about to rescue them and finding them a forever home.

Eventually they negotiated the rescue of the friends with the farmer and transport was arranged to bring them to our Asheldham site as whilst we already had the new farm site, we needed to keep the three separate as they were coming from a different "zone" with regard to TB testing. Cows moving to different testing interval zones have to be tested pre move and then again 60 days after arrival.  So we waited for the transport lorry to arrive.  It was late when it did and dark and to my horror I saw an enormous articulated transporter approaching our relatively small drive entrance.

There was absolutely no way on Earth that a vehicle this size was going to turn down the drive and unloading three cows in the road was simply not a good plan - So we asked the driver to head to one of our rented yards up the road where as luck would have it, we had just rented a new barn for emergency use. This place has a much bigger drive & the articulated lorry was able to get down and unload successfully and just about managed to turn around & leave - phew.

The 3 friends were fine and got the all clear a couple of months later whereupon they were integrated with the main herd at the new farm site. Hector is the tamest of the 3 and enjoys a head scratch of a morning - and evening - and around lunchtime too
