Dawn is a breed of cow called a 'Dexter' which is a very small, particularly short legged cow originating from County Kerry in Ireland. Dawn is one of our very senior residents at 18 years old. She was rescued from slaughter back in July 2017 and has been enjoying her retirement at the sanctuary ever since.

Dawn had been used to breed all her life and was on her way to market for meat having reached an age where she could no longer be used for this purpose.  She lives with the other very elderly cows (Marinka, Olga and Rosie) in what used to be the garden at the new farm site, which they share with some of the elder equine residents. It is connected to an area of hard standing for when its too wet on the grass and also they have a huge barn to go into for shelter which is split down the middle with the Highlands having access to the other side.
