The first 2 Highland Cows we ever rescued were Flora & Fenella who had been used as breeding mothers all their lives but were now too old to continue to provide this 'service' and so were going to go to slaughter. The farmer who owned them had however been looking for an alternative to slaughter and was put in touch with Fiona through his contacts in the local farming community. Both girls arrived at the end of 2018 just after the Sanctuary had acquired its new farm site. Despite his parting words - which were that there was "no way either of the girls were in calf" - we found come the following March, a small bundle of orangy ginger fluff had been deposited in the barn where the girls were stabled.
We couldn't believe our eyes! And so it was that little Fernando arrived on the 10th March 2019. I have been using up to date pictures for all the Cows so far, but simply had to re-use this one of Fernando together with his proud Mum. A real life Ewok lol Fernando is fully grown now and like Pancake, is one of a tiny nano fraction of baby cows that get to live with their mums in a forever home.
Please help him reach his target so we can better ensure that it will indeed be a forever home
